In an era where AI can accomplish many tasks swiftly—and sometimes more efficiently—Florida’s future success depends on the strength of our entire community. By grounding AI initiatives in ethical, transparent, and collaborative practices, we ensure that the learning and future success of our students remains the top priority. The FL K-12 AI Education Task Force was established to provide flexible guidance to K-12 educational systems across the the state. These efforts are led by the University of Florida CS Everyone Center for Computer Science Education and include a broad range of stakeholders including public, private, and charter schools, higher education, non-profit organizations, and educational technology companies. Over 100 members including

UF faculty and staff, FL District and School Administrators, District Information/Instructional Technology (IT) leaders, Parent Groups, School Board Members, Community College Administrators, Industry and Non-Profit Leaders, and of course – Teachers.

30+ Florida Counties Represented So Far

– and Growing – across urban, suburban, and rural settings! Major partners include Broward County Public Schools, Hillsborough Public Schools, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and Pinellas County Public Schools, as well as all three Rural Education Consortia.

In an era where AI can accomplish many tasks swiftly—and sometimes more effectively—Florida’s future success depends on UF’s leadership and the strength of our entire community. UF’s role in K-12 AI Education include development of:

1. Guidance for AI in K-12 Education through the Task Force

Drafting and Refining the K-12 AI Education Guidance that will establish recommendations and safeguards to AI usage in K-12 settings in a manner that supports learning for all K-12 students while ensuring that AI educational systems protect student data and do not violate the privacy rights of students, families, educators, and educational organizations.

2. Ongoing Professional Learning:

Developing a series of stackable microcredentials so that every teacher, from new to seasoned educators, have access to flexible professional learning focused on impactful, responsible use of AI aligned to their own professional practice.

3. Collaboration and Collective Impact:

Strengthening support networks—families, communities, educators, and industry partners—so that each learner benefits fully from AI opportunities and knowledge and resources reach every corner of Florida.

4. Critical, Ethical, and Sustainable Decision Making:

Encouraging a community-wide commitment to fair and responsible AI usage, guided by human oversight and professional judgment, ensuring our collective choices support both educational excellence and planetary well-being.
